Brett and Bianca's wedding was a romantic beach event, filled with personal touches and gorgeous details. They were lucky enough to have an incredible location, at their family beach house, just one step away from the beautiful Front Beach in the Coromandel, with uninterrupted views for their barefoot ceremony. It was a perfect day, and one that I was so honoured to be a part of.

HOW DID IT WORK FROM INSIDE THE STUDIO…?

Booking & Budget

One year out from the wedding, Bianca got in contact to ask me if I do her wedding flowers. As she was going to become my new sister in law, I was beyond excited to take part in creating their special day.

Getting in early was key to the creation of this wedding. Not only did it mean that I wasn’t already booked, but it gave us plenty of time to go through the details. We chatted about their vision, budget and inspiration and it was clear that Toi Toi was going to be a key element of their day. With all the time ahead, I sent the couple off with a stem count of 400+ Toi Toi they needed to collect between now and the end of the grasses season.

Foraging saved them a huge amount of money, and gave them (and their keen family and friends) plenty to do working up to the day.

At this point I was also able to give Brett and Bianca a cost estimate of the final design. As this was still a year out from the day, I made it clear that this number is just a guide, and things can be added, removed, and adjusted until we were all happy.

Note: Before going foraging, ask around to see what family and friends have on their property. Also make sure to check with the owners before cutting away their beloved plants and priced blooms!!

The Styling

Toi Toi, Toi Toi and a little bit of drift wood!

Brett and Bianca loved the idea of a beach wedding, but didn’t want their day to look ‘theme-y’. They had clear visions and opinions on what they liked, thought was necessary (or not) and how they wanted the guests to feel. We met twice before the wedding to talk through styling and although they were a very hands on couple, they also trusted my experience and style, giving me freedom to express my own ideas and take the lead on flowers. With this freedom I wanted them to have a unique design, filled with personal elements and relaxing styling.

After all these discussions, I spent hours finding inspiration by scouring real weddings from Magazines including NZ Bride and Groom, Pinterest and online Wedding Blogs to produce a ‘Visual Proposal’ for them to review. The visual proposal is the way I can give my couples a glimpse of the styling direction I’m heading in. This style is very romantic and whimsical, while also being fresh and timeless. The colour palette was incredibly soft and I wanted to avoid green as much as possible and really focus on the softness of blush and creams, taking inspiration from the sand.

The Father of the Groom loves Orchids and had a small collection which is he very kindly offered to use in the arrangements. I love incorporating flowers from other peoples gardens, so jumped at this opportunity. Not only does incorporating others florals add a personal touch, but if adds another layer of sentiment to such a special day.

For the bouquet finishes, I really wanted to continue the feeling of softness so added silk ribbon which would float below the bridal bouquet. Although this is a more expensive finish that traditional ribbon it worked beautifully with the style.

The final personal touch was a small brooch which was added to the bouquet at the final minute. The brooch was owned by the grooms Omi (Grandmother) who originally purchased the family beach house. It only seemed fitting to honour her memory in the flowers, and let her be in the front row next to her grandson on his wedding day.

Here are the original visual proposals for Brett and Bianca.
